Volunteering Experiences and Thoughts from Girl Scout Troop 3020, Part I

3/1/2015

"I really liked helping out with technology. I just wished that we could have actually helped more than we did. I helped one lady but it took four of us the entire time that we were there."
---Kristina

"I liked working with the elderly and I thought that the meeting went well. We didn't help as many people as we would have liked because they were eating. Other than that I had fun and really enjoyed it."
---Emily

"During my first visit with Technocademy, I helped a lady named Patricia. We helped her learn how to use speed dial on her phone and taught her how to access her voicemails. It was a great experience to teach her what she needed to know, I really enjoy doing this. It is super fun to know that I'm making a difference in their lives."
---Cate

"I worked with a lady that needed help with her T.V., iPhone, and computer. I thought it was very fun to come and meet all the senior citizens and help them with technology. This was a great experience and I can't wait until the next time we go!"
---Jenna

"Recently, I had the opportunity to go to a senior living community with my GS troop in order to help them with their technological problems and I am so glad that I got to have this wonderful experience. While there, I got to meet so many different people and it was rewarding to help them solve their problems. I even helped one lady fix her DVD player and she was satisfied with the work my partner and I had done. They enjoyed us so much, that the seniors were looking forward to having my troop come back soon. I am looking forward to it as well and give credit to Technocademy for letting us volunteer with them."

The Competitive Edge

Why us? Technocademy, Inc. boasts an advantage for many reasons:

(1)  Lessons are offered directly at the senior living home: Many seniors would love to learn about technology, but are not capable or would rather have it taught to them in their living area rather than going to a place. This also saves the living home money from transportation as well as valuable time from having to drive to and back from a lesson.

(2)  Tech-savvy high school students are the teachers: Students who are very energetic and willing to help will be the source of knowledge. Teenagers literally spend all day on electronics and have the experience to understand all the basics and specifics when it comes to technology.

(3)  Technocademy, Inc. is free of charge: Lessons are provided devoid of any service costs to senior homes or seniors.

(4)  Technocademy, Inc. focuses on what seniors want: While there might be other technological education services available, Technocademy, Inc. makes a massive effort to teach what is useful to seniors, not just pointless technology. Technocademy, Inc. tries to allow seniors to interact with loved ones worldwide. A huge chunk of our lessons consist of individualized Q&A from senior citizens who have their own needs and interests.
